There were nine. Nine daughters of Zeus. Nine muses.

According to ancient myth, they were the source of all inspiration. Goddesses who compelled artists of all kinds to create. They were the embodiment of artistic courage and expression.

The posts on my site tagged with “the nine” are meant to carry on their tradition, encouraging creative types to keep doing what they do. Because I’m a writer, some of these are oriented specifically toward writing. However, all art is creation, and the same principles that make for a great writer make one a great painter, sculptor, musician, film-maker, DJ, graphic designer or scrap-booker.

To quote Henri Matisse, “Creativity takes courage.”

Whatever form your creativity takes, my hope is to bolster your courage, even if only a little.
